Construction & Housing — Morocco's #1 portal 🇲🇦
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is among Morocco's most used materials for interior fitting: kitchens, wardrobes, furniture fronts, technical partitions, laminate floors. Density 600-800 kg/m³, finer than chipboard but moisture-sensitive (except HMR). Local production + Spanish/Turkish/Chinese imports.
MDF: very fine fibers + resin — perfect smooth surface for paint, decent screw hold. Chipboard: coarser flakes, rough surface, weaker screws, cheaper. Plywood: cross-laminated wood layers — superior mechanical/moisture resistance, 30-50% pricier than MDF. Painted/melamine furniture: MDF. Structure or humidity: plywood. Cheap furniture back: chipboard.
Standard MDF: avoid in damp rooms — absorbs water, swells 5-15%, irreversible. HMR MDF (green tint): designed for humidity, supports shower, vanity, kitchen near sink. +30-50% premium but saves full replacement at 5-8 years. Kitchen and bath: HMR MANDATORY.
Special MDF screw (fine thread) with Ø2.5 mm pilot hole for Ø4 mm screw — else splitting. Load: 10-15 kg per screw in 18 mm MDF. Shelf: use solid wood batten behind. Vinyl glue + 30 min pressure for permanent assembly. Avoid nails. Edge screwing: always blows out — use metal expansion inserts.
Yes, like all urea-formaldehyde glue panels. Emission classes: E0 (very low, <0.05 ppm), E1 (low, <0.124 ppm — common EU standard), E2 (avoid in housing). Kids' rooms or main living: E0 or E1, CARB Phase 2 or EPF S0 certified. Ventilate room first 6 months.
4 m² closet with 6 m² shelving + 4 m² sliding doors. White melamine MDF 18 mm: ~12 m² × 200 MAD = 2,400 + hardware (Blum) 3,500-6,000 = 5,900-8,400 materials. Carpenter cut+assembly: 4,500-8,000. Total: 10,400-16,400 MAD. Custom (Mobalpa, Schmidt): 22,000-40,000.
