Sand is the most used aggregate in construction. In Morocco, it comes mainly from quarries (crushed) and authorized dunes. Transport is the main price variation factor.
About 0.4 m3 of sand per 1 m3 of B25 concrete. For a 100 m2 x 15 cm slab = 15 m3 concrete, you need ~6 m3 sand.
Quarry sand (crushed, angular) is preferred for concrete and masonry. Dune sand (fine, round) is suitable for plaster and mortar. Never use sea sand (salt = rebar corrosion).
Clean sand leaves no mud trace when rubbed in your hand. Jar test: mix sand + water, let sit 24h. If the clay layer exceeds 5% of the height, the sand is unsuitable.
Yes, beach sand extraction is strictly prohibited in Morocco (law 27-13). Penalties can reach 2 million MAD in fines and 5 years in prison. Only buy from authorized quarries.
A standard dump truck (6 wheels) carries 8-10 m3 of sand. A semi-trailer carries 15-20 m3. Always verify the actual volume at delivery.
