Which cornice for living room?

Modern <30m²: 8-12cm cornice (65-130/lm). Classic 30-50m²: 12-15cm (95-130). Traditional Moroccan: maâlem 20-30cm + central rosette + wall motifs. 40m² (25lm perimeter): 2.4-7k MAD industrial or 7-11.25k maâlem.

How is it installed?

Clean dry surface: 1) Mark level line. 2) Apply mounting plaster to back. 3) Press + hold 3-5 min. 4) Caulk joints. 5) Smooth wall/ceiling joints. 6) Dry 24-48h. 7) Paint (1-2 acrylic coats). No nails/screws except heavy. Masters use ancestral plaster+hemp technique.

Staff or polystyrene?

Polystyrene (Decora-type): 5-10× cheaper (8-25 MAD/lm), light, ultra-fast install, looks convincing painted. BUT: FLAMMABLE class E (banned in some public buildings), plastic feel, can't be carved, 10-20yr life (yellows, breaks). Staff: 50-100yr durable, fireproof, noble material, heavier, pricier.

How long to install?

Cornice 30lm (40m² living): 1 day for 2 experienced plasterers. Rosette alone: 2-4h. Full dropped ceiling 40m²: 2-3 days (install + finish). Master carving: 1-3 weeks per piece. Always 48h dry before paint. Seal electrical (chandelier) BEFORE rosette install.
