Laminate: cheap, scratch/stain resistant, NOT sandable, 10-15yr life. Engineered: real wood, 1-2 sandings, 25-40yr. Solid: 100% noble wood, 5+ sandings, 50-80+yr, humidity-sensitive. Rental: laminate. Primary: engineered. Heritage: solid.
Suits Moroccan climate?
Yes but: 1) Store 48-72h on site (acclimation). 2) Indoor humidity 45-65%. 3) Avoid bathrooms except LVT vinyl. 4) 8-10mm expansion joint. 5) Prefer dense species (oak, jatoba, bamboo) for humid coastal. 6) Glue-down if heated floor.
Installation cost?
Floating (click): 80-130 MAD/m² incl. underlayment + skirting. Glued solid: 120-180 (adhesive + prep). Herringbone/Hungarian: 180-280 (technique). Add 25-50 for sanding-finishing if new solid.
How to maintain?
Daily: soft vacuum or microfiber. Weekly: well-wrung mop + parquet-specific product. NEVER: bleach, pure vinegar, steam, black soap on laminate. Every 5-10yr: oil/varnish refresh (solid/engineered). Felt pads under furniture mandatory.
Which underlayment?
Floating laminate/engineered: 2-3mm PE foam (basic, 12-25 MAD/m²), 2mm cork (acoustic, 35-65), extruded polystyrene (thermal, 45-85). On humid slab: add 200-micron polyane film below. Heated floor: low thermal resistance <0.15 m²K/W.
