Gabion: natural drainage (water flows through), fast install no formwork, natural/modern aesthetic, dismantlable, 50-100yr life. Similar/lower cost vs concrete for <3m height. Reinforced concrete: needed >4m or heavy loads, waterproof, but long formwork, drainage issues if unplanned. Villa/garden: gabion preferred up to 2.5-3m.
Standard: local white limestone (80-200mm), cheap and sober look. Premium: grey/black granite/basalt (modern anthracite), recycled crushed (eco), river pebbles (zen garden). Min size = 1.5× cage mesh. Non-flat shape for good stacking. Decorative mix: noble stone on visible face + cheap limestone inside.
No study: max 1.5m (1×1m cages staggered). 1.5-3m: geotechnical study advised (terrace cages 30-50cm steps). >3m: study mandatory + tie anchors + concrete foundation. Base width = 0.6-0.8× total height. Mandatory back drainage (geotextile + 30cm drain gravel).
20lm × 1.5m height × 1m depth = 30m³. Limestone kit: 30 × (380-480) = 11.4-14.4k MAD mat + install 30 × (80-180) = 2.4-5.4k = 13.8-19.8k total. Premium stone: 14.4-19.5k mat + 2.4-5.4k labor = 16.8-24.9k total. 2m height: ×1.33.
Standard galvanized: 30-50yr (zinc protects). Z350 + PVC coated: 50-100yr (ideal marine/aggressive climate). Maintenance: zero for standard, annual anchor check in mountain (seismic), leaf/vegetation cleaning every 2-3yr. Main weakness: coastal rust if insufficient galvanizing — MUST choose PVC-coated at Tanger, Agadir, Essaouira.
